hey maxers!

i need help on something.maybe im doing it wrong or something, but i cant make what i want...

basically,i have particles glowing. and when i zoom back, the size stays the same.

in the "lens effects globals",i checked "distance affects" ,"size" and "intensity". but it doesnt work.

so,anybody experienced same thing? am i doing something wrong here?

thanks :)

First off I'm going to go ahead and assume that you are using a camera view.

2nd, in my exp those settings affect the glow (or other effect) based on distance from the camera, using z-buffer data. For example particles close to the cam will have a stronger glow that those that are farther away.

When you zoom you need to tweak the settings, and if animating you will need to keyframe those settings.

I know this kinda sucks, because it is more like a post effect than a 3D effect. Then there is the question of what about rendering to different sizes? Will a 640x480 render differ from a 720x486 or 800x600 rendering in terms of the effect scale.

I hope to hear from others.

hey Ls3D.

im using a camera to view the scene.

well,i just reallized that when zooming alot much out,it was changing size, but not intensity, and its still not accurate.

animating its parametres seems like a good idea, but its surely a pain in the h*le.

about different rendering scale,i have no idea about it.

so,hows this effect possible in post effect? i've never

touched video post or anything, until now,max was good (though,i never did any effects before).

thanks for your help :)

not that I've tested it, but I noticed (Max 5.1) that the glow effect has two check boxes; Under Lens effects Globals>Scene: Distance affects _size & _Intensity. this should chage these values with out having to keyframe anything.

Hope this helps & I would be interested to hear you reults.

When I say post effect, I'm reffering to the fact that the scene is rendered out and then the effect is applied to the rendering based on material and fx id's...

The problem with this is that there is not a lot of pixel space for fine control over the effect.

If the effects that come with max are not satisfactory then you may want to consider a 3rd party plug-in.

cebas, rlf?

If money is tight then you may just have to tweak untill desireable results are achieved.

Sorry I don't have better answers,.. BTW - Don't think video post is needed.
