View Full Version : Animated Incandescence and final gather?

Ok, so this is pretty much my first major test of final gather. I basically set up this catapiller/grub thing with incandescence, a decent shader network (35+ nodes), and a fade in/out for incandescence. (Yes, I saw the help files say you can't animate incandescence with final gather)

Even though it says it can't animate with it, it's completely killing any form of changes in my shader network

Heres what I'm getting --
When rendered in a sequence -- Frame 44

When rendered solo -- Frame 44

Edit ----
OK wow, didn't post this, but it posted on the forum anyway. The website like refreshed when I was writing this and I thought it cleared it.

ANYWAY, how about I finish this post.

As of right now, I'm rendering out my scene on a final gather pass only to bake out the final gather. Hoping this will fix my problems. Even though I've tried rendering the sequence with turning off and turning on the rebuild final gather map option.

Can anyone tell me if that might help?

Ok, so those images above, the top image was the starting shader set up and blending nodes set up, but even though I've animated blend nodes, it's still showing a different image on the body of the grub then there should be. Even though it's not too noticeable, the second image has a different percentage of a second diffuse texture on the body (It should look like the second image). I didn't figure that final gather would cause an issue like this.

----------

For my Final Gather render pass right now, is there a way of viewing the data it's storing? Because this is taking a while to render out my 245 frame animation for just the final gather. Then after this I'll need to render out the scene again with final gather frozen (as I've been told). I just don't want all of this to be for nothing, I've been messing around with this for almost 6 hours now, no progress.

Ok, so I don't know how to use this final gather merge files either. Nore can I get my scene rendering different textures every frame.

Bah

Ok, so I made a make shift way of doing what I want, I set up a batch(bat file) render to go through and render every frame between the animated parts, individually. It's certainly something I don't want to do when I need to render the final video on my project, seeing how it closes and starts up mental ray in between every frame it renders.

I'm only rendering 245 frames now, but I'm going to need to render 3600 - 4320 frames, and with mental ray closing and opening, it's going to take for ever to render that.
