The online magazine Joystick has published news that Id Software creator John Carmack just announced at Electronic Arts' press conference that it has partnered with the publisher

I dont know about you lot but I take this as bad news. EA have screwed up two of my previous favourite houses(Origin and Westwood) so for a small company like ID I dont see them lasting long.

Maybe Carmack knows what he is doing but with his attention divided between games and space rockets I cant hold much faith...

i just hope that this doesnt mean that rage will be tied to securom or crap like that. i bought mass effect recently and being given only 3 installs is just retarded.

C'mon its well known that the best way to fight piracy is to make your product even worse than the free version. Its just common sense, I'm surprised they let you run it at all.

Id and EA (Idea haha! love it) but actualy i don't like it lol

All id were going to do was make doom 4 anyway, and that was hardly going to set some innovative gaming precedent, so you won't be missing much.
It's a perfect marriage if you ask me, at least EA wont be smothering some burgeoning creativity this time

I just hope they'll release it on STEAM. I don't buy games in local stores anymore and love it that I don't have to keep the ugly DVD Cases around, don't have to worry about scratchy DVDs, Copy Protection, having the DVDs in my drive, causing the the drive to make loud, annoying noises, the advantage of the Steam Community stuff,...

I just love STEAM for PC Gaming and the copy protection crapshit alone is a reason why I don't buy 'originals' anymore. Don't care for fancy DVD cases and I hate having to put the DVD in my drive while playing.

Too true, if it's not on STEAM, I don't buy it, end.

It's just a publishing partnership, I'm sure EA has no creative input whatsoever in Id's projects, it's not like theyre being bought out. That's not how JC rolls. It's just like the previous activision partnership. Id makes it, EA puts it in a box and handles distribution for a cut of the profits, and they'll probably take on some porting since everyone hates doing PS3 ports.
In fact, Id has already worked with EA Mobile to release Doom RPG, Orcs & Elves, & Orcs & Elves 2.
