i miss in max 4 being able to press the corresponding number to the sublevel you were on to get out of sublevel mode
is there any way to do this in max5?

It still works. There's just a stupid little bug that needs you to do something (don't worry it's simple) before it works.
Press the "Keyboard Shortcut Override toggle" button on the top toolbar and then unpress it.
It's real weird, it's like the first time you press it, it doesn't actually press... then if you press it a second time (and everytime after) it will press the way it was supposed to press. Hard to explain in text, just press it a couple times and everything will work fine :D
