View Full Version : Group Conceptualizing
kadjikun 07-15-2008, 04:37 AM Tomorrow, the conceptual team from my project is coming over for a concept day. I'm a project leader more than a Design Team leader, so this is a little new to me.
From experience, what is the best technique to help a group discuss and idealize concepts and bring it to form?
There was one technique I've heard was to have a bunch of paper in a jar, and during the meeting, one person pulls out a paper, then use it to see if it works out.
All the help is greatly appreciated.

One really fun exercise we did in my concept art club was to play "telephone" based on a concept idea. Each artist around the table would draw their interpretation of the previous artist's concept -adding or subtracting from it.

Highly encourage a white board to collectively focus this phase of discussion, with yourself posting "stuff," or request a "poster" while you focus on facilitating. Start out with one edge stating the design objectives or spec to keep reference for later. these should be written out before hand or generated as a focused first step. Then the fun part, set a time frame (20 min??+) for "brainstorming" anything goes, no containment or re-direction allowed, by anyone, you are in charge to make sure that it flows, without interruption. At the end of the time frame, a "messy" list will have emerged. Now the mixing and matching, more spontaneous rifs on what has been suggested, etc. This portion will now be directed and re-focused with the design objectives/specs as reference. Good luck with the process, it is a process....
