So I am having a hard time painting a texture for 3ds max. Specifically, I can’t figure out how to paint convincing seams and stitching for an everyday women’s t-shirt. I am using Photoshop CS3 and I was hoping someone here might know a good technique or be able to give a couple pointers.---Thanks in advance for any help.

That helps a little with the stitching. But the seams are giving me the most trouble. Thanks for the link though.

Check out the forums and threads for poser content and clothing creation for Second Life - although the UVW maps will be different than what you are doing, the basic skill is the same.

Generally I create digital clothing for SL in a way that would be considered "Tromp L'Oiel" - use an overlay layer and dodge and burn plus use the smudge tool - a lot. The best part about using an overlay layer is that you can turn off the overlay mode and then use that as your "bump" map for added realism.

The stiches etc., can be created using a brush. I believe that Obsidian Dawn has a set for free. Look at the digital painting forums for techniques in creating some of the details that you want. Whatever isn't mesh then you have to create that realism with "painting". You can use digital images of clothing and conform them to your UVW or you can paint it from your head.
