View Full Version : Subdivide in the Y?
rickmorgan 07-15-2008, 12:17 AM Is there an easy way, other than manually doing it with the knife tool, to add more segments in the Y axis of an object. I want to add more Y segments to a cylinder that has already been made editable (so I can bend it).
Thanks

Ring select the edges and apply the Edge Cut tool.

You can use the knife tool -> plane -> turn on slice and set cuts the number to however many slices you want. Then you have to actual click on the object to apply the knife. This is assuming you want to divide the height and your model is nice and square to the world. It's harder to divide going around the circumference. For that you might have to select the round end edges with the loop select in edge mode and then use Edge Cut to add points nicely in the middle of the edges. THen you'd need to manually cut from point to point.

Sweet! Both techniques work great. Thanks for your help!

it took me the LONGEST time to find out that the knife tool had extra abilities (a la the "plane" mode etc). Im still kicking myself to this day. And thats it for my rather pointless little post.

Wow, that Plane mode in the knife tool is really nice! The visual feedback it gives you before you cut really helps allot too as you can make adjustments bfore commiting to the cut.
Thanks again!!!

Thx again, Darter for showing the perfect solution (edge tool) that for me, usually goes unnoticed in the modeling set.

Bah, you used to be able to select the new edges in edge cut but alas no more, not that I'm bitter :D

Hehee, I still miss MeshSurgery  Which seemed to have more handles on the cutting tools.
