Just one word ... " WOW!!" This one is very very good , i also like the fact you didn't put any background or anything , it looks cool like this on a "studio render like style" , the buggy and materials are AWSOME good work , very impresive :)

Very nice work man! I love the dirt and grime... it's nice to see some dirty vehicle models! Sometimes it's so tiresome seeing perfectly clean CG cars all the time! haha.
Only crit - I think that the side of the buggy could use some splashes of mud maybe.... where the star is - possibly from where the wheels have flung mud up onto the body. Seems really clean there right now.
Anyways - great work! Keep it up!

Glad to see this thing finished. The end result came out fantastic. 4 stars from me. Textures and modeling are top notch!

I love it. the only critque I have is a small nitpick, the only places I've seen dune buggys didn't have any grass. Then again, I don't get to use one whenever I want....I only got to use it while in the marine corps...so this could jsut be a matter of accessablity lol. Either way it goes, this is an awesome piece of work.
If I knew how to give stars I'd give you a 4 (nly because I'd never give anyoen a 5....a 5 leaves no room for imporvement and there is ALWAYS room for improvement.)
edit-figured it out....you already know what you got from me. Keep up the great work

as for the mud, well it was a comprimise, as it wouldnt go near mud, but i though it was a challenge. Denko's buggy is really top draw, much better than mine, so i decided that the studio shot would be better. no way i can get environments that good. My wip thread will continue with an attempt at a desert image, and my planned animation!
cheers for all the thumbs up!
oh, i may get around to doing a tutorial, as I have had a few requests!

thanks guys!
mud was made by using pflow/tp to spread particles over the body using a b/w distribution map. then by customising the particles to double up in places. I then used pwrapper to mesh the lot, then some noise, and some soft selection editing to push it around a little in places.
overall worked out well, but i'm not 100% happy with the final look, but I can live with it. grass and pebbles were painted on using a maxscript.
whole buggy is rigged for animation, so all suspension and stuff works properly, ready to be attached to madcar or similar. thats my next task after a desert render.
