View Full Version : Cintiq 12WX and İmac connection
dbilgili 07-13-2008, 10:35 PM I have 17" C2D imac , it has a Mini-DVI output.
Now i wonder that can i connect the 12WX and use it as main screen as well as in double screen mode ?
Also i read that cintiq 12wx supports DVI , VGA and USB connection. Then if i connect it with usb connection , do i experience any delay problem while drawing ?
And also i want to learn that does this product has any general problem (delay or something else)
By the way i have no experience with any pen tablet. And i am not sure about Cintiq 12WX.
is it too professional for first tablet ? Or else should i buy cheaper tablet like bamboo or other wacom products to learn drawing and painting in digital ambient ?

Do not buy a 12 ux before trying it first. If you are new to digital painting go with something cheaper like bamboo imo. Bamboo is a amazing tablet for its price.
*is it me or do we have a new cintiq thread here every other day?

i agree , test it first... i thinki've heard tell that older imac's won't support a double screen mode...in other words, it will mirror each other. so you'll move the pen around and it will mirror everything on original monitor....not sure if i'm making sense. i could be wrong though , i have to track down one of my friends who bought one for home.

here's my take on this...i have heard that in theroy the 12 wacom cintiq is great but if you want to be semi mobile with it and not just have it near welded to your desk and say want to sit on your sofa or somewhere else then dragging the huge cables around is just plain Annoying...
re wacom bamboo i have the wacom bamboo medium ad it's really good value...i bought mine from amazon.co.uk. and was the bundle pak that comes with photoshop elements for mac and pc plus art rage for mac and pc too...great bundle and the tablet it just the right size to work with.

regards a tablet pc> i recently bought a HP tablet from amazon.co.uk and it's really amazing value for money..it's 12.1 touch screen works really well and has a res of
1200x800, comes with 2 batteries a small and a large one...2 gig ram..512ram nvidia graphics card..the screen spins around so you can run it like a laptop or a tablet...the screen can be flipped all 4 ways round...one thing to note is the pen is not the same tech i think as a wacom as my wacom pen does not work with it...but no big deal as the hp pen is very nice and feels more pen like [biro dimensions] than a wacom pen does anyhow.
note the hp DOES use wacom technology as there's a big sticker on the laptop saying so!
but the pens ARE different...
i'm really pleased with the hp laptop as you may tell!

ohh forgot to add that the HP tablet is really cheap!
£650...there's nothing anywhere near this price for the amount of features and high spec you get with this tablet pc.

i got a cintiq 12wx at home, other than the jittering around the perimeter and more at the bottom i got used to it now and doesnt bother me at all its not comparable to normal tablets at least the way of using . for me its much better .for the usb connection u cannot use it as a cintiq with usb that way it just turns into an intuos you just have to connect it with an adapter either dvi or vga to have the best of cintiq

I heard that with time nib of the tablet pen gets worn away.
Firstly is this true ? if it's true then how long i can use it ?
And also is this available for pen of cintiqs ?

it depends on how you use it but thinking that the tablet has an usable area of an a4 paper u cannot make large strokes which prolongs the life of the nib on the other hand they are really cheap and 3 or 5 of them comes with the package and also the surface differs from the intuos so you cannot use intuos nibs on the tablet but i guess u can use the pen if u change the nibs before use

my hp tablet pc that's wacom driven comes with spare nibs and a nib replacement tool so not much to be concerned about..i'll also be looking at getting an extra pen incase i break or lose the one that came with it as wacom pens from other tablets do not work on the hp tablet pc
