If this is the old "Power Calibration Error" then this sometimes works.

1 On the Desktop click start
2 select control panel
3 click on administrative tools
4 click on services
5 browse your way down to IMAPI CD BURNING COM SERVICE
6 right click (on IMAPI) then select properties
7 in the middle of the window it will say start up type; click on the arrow to the right and select disabled.
8 click APPLY

Yes, that's right, it is the old "Power Calibration Error".

The IMAPI service is set to manual. I just set it to disable. Just to understand, what does this service do, why should I disable and what hapend if I enable?

Thanks

This problem has been around since at least version 6.

I do see on other forums that bad media can cause this. That's why it works sometimes and not others. Might have something to do with a test burn to a reserved area of the CD before the main burn begins. This can also be caused by a dirty laser lens or weak laser. Also, CDRW disks are supposedly much more susceptible to this error.

How old is your burner? They don't last forever. Since the burning laser is stronger than needed just for reading I've had a few DVD and CD ROM burners that died this way. They would read just fine but burns became intermittant and eventually just failed.

Set Imapi to disable and try other media. I've had very good luck with Maxell Gold media. DVD burners are down to $20 or $30 dollars these days. I usually use Newegg.com for these purchases.

I'm using Nero 8 and was burning a DVD-R.

My burner is new, has only one month from Sony.

I don't know if there is a problem with the energy tension because I saw that depending on the hour on the day the problem is worst. If I burn during a peak level, it has big chances to fail. If in a "not so many people" using "light" and energy, seems it works ok. Another thing I saw is that it doesn't mether the speed you choose (8x, 6x or 4x). I tried with 8x and got error, tried 4x and got error too, but depending on the hour I run with 8x and it works fine!

Would you recommend another buring software, else Roxio e Nero, something lighter and less memory and CPU power usage?

After burning a DVD, where can I see the buring session log files? For exemple, I left it burning during the night and set Nero to shut down when finish burning. The next day I saw that the computer hang and I couldn't know if the burning process was sucessfull. How can I be sure?

Thanks

It's possible that when overall power usage in your area is up that your AC voltage drops because of the drain. This could conceivably affect the components in your PC but I would expect that this would affect other more critical items of your PC first, like CPU and video card. You might want to try a power surge protector too. It won't raise voltage but if your AC power fluctuates, it would protect you from surges.

So, I'm all out of ideas. I think Nero is great and wouldn't think that the software is the problem. Just FYI, I used to see the Power calibration error very occasionally but it disappeared when I got an NEC burner. It could just be a coincidence.

If you used a default install of Nero than your log should be in
C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log
or in the Core directory of Nero

Good luck.

I'm already using something like that, that's why I really don't understand why I get this power error message. I don't plug the AC directly into the "wall".

I don't think neither but somewhere is the problem. I'm trying all the possibilities to get around and "close" over the problem to fix. Using another software would be one.

I got a NEC DVD-ROM and I never had just one problem with it. The point is that I was needing a burner and the store got Sony and another that I didn't heard (something generic) and between a Sony (very knewed) and a generic, I chouse Sony. In fact I don't know if SOny makes really good DVD burners, but I got very good experienses with CD-RW drivers from them, so I thought with the DVD burners would be the same. Perhaps not?

That's right, I installed it in the default directory. This one:

C:\Arquivos de programas\Nero\Nero8\Nero Burning Rom

I looked for the file and path you said me but didn't find. Is there any option where I can set the path where I want to store/save the log file? How can I check a DVD that I just burned if it's really ok and without problems?

Thank you!

I really don't have much experience with Sony burners. Have you tried different media? Some burners are more sensitive to different media brands.

You might not be able to see .log because log is not a standard Windows file extension. See if you can change the filter to view all files.

Don't know how to change the default directory for Nero logs.

Sorry
