View Full Version : Texturing rocket boosters.
Hey everyone,
I was hoping to get some help on a class assignment. I am currently trying to texture some rocket boosters (like the space shuttle's) and want a nice burned look around the edges where the flame is emitted. I also need a bit of a charred look. I have added a ramp and fractal to get it started, are there any tips for getting it to look nice and used?
thanks.

Just keep playing with it. Ramps can do wonders if you channel the proper fractal with the right colors. I like to add multiple lines inside ramps and connect different Fractals, Brownians, Marbles, to some of the ramp inputs. I just kept playing with the values. My Vehicle (http://www.cydonian.com/server/wip/PA_vehicle_sigma10.gif). The Tires are ramps, most of the other textures were either a combination of Fractals, Brownians, or marble textures. Just tweak away!
Check the Maya Tutorials online (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6360) thread for some tutorials on texturing with ramps. Follow one of the links that have Multiple Tutorials and Im sure you'll find one.
:D
sigma,
thanks for the advice. I have been tweaking and it is coming along, adding more ramps and fractals. hsv color noise and the like as well.
Thanks for the links too, they will be a big help for me :)
