View Full Version : 1930 Ford Model A Sport Coupe
This is the second car for my Christmas story. Mostly finished, unless you all have some suggestions. I spent an eternity trying to get a convincing look to the material for the convertable top. For some reason I expected it to be easy -- it was anything but.

Wow what an excellent model! I remeber this car from the game mafia, had a top speed of 90 miles an hour (downhill)!! Very quick for that era :buttrock:

very nice modelling!! :D the shader for the convertable top is also very believable. but the compression is just to heavy, can we see a better highres version and also a wire please.

Very nice. Excellent model and looks like the time spent on the rag top was well spent!
 What a beauty! I second the request for higher res and a wire. :wavey:

Thats beautiful work MV
My only crit would be is that you have a show room shine, whereas in your short film making it really shiny {if I remember your char correctly:)}may not totally connect with your characters personality and a clean car :) .....might be right off base there as I only know a smidegeon of the story.
Maybe some dust on it would look good :)
Stu.
Oh ya almost forgot.....Tiles > Weave at a really low global scale with just the grout used makes a really nice bump for fabric type materials :)

Here is a wireframe render.

Damn! Has the cage pic dissapeared?? All I see is the dreaded Red Cross! The other images all look very nice, though, congrats. Makes a nice change from seeing modern sports cars all the time

Okay, one little thing: before you post it on finished works rerender with area shadows. It looks a little floaty at the moment. I suppose you could also tighten up the soft shadows.
raising that shadow map should do it.

I agree, the car seems a bit floating over the ground, better fix that shadow, the rest's amazing as i already said before

how do you get an HDR map to only reflect on the car and not touch the background at all ?? can't be done if you use sky map right ?

Use a compositing tag on the sky object and uncheck "seen by camera".

Thanks. The slats on the side aren't too difficult. I simply extruded the polys with 'Preserve Groups' deactived, then deleted the poly and the back edges of the newly formed protruding rectangles. HN did the rest.

I think it`s greatest old car i`ve ever seen!!!!
Thanks MJV should have thought of that myself.
"gahh kicks self"
Here is another idea I'm toying around with to do something with this old poster, maybe a little animation or something. Any ideas?

Hey, Michael, where's your wiper;) Don't I see one in that cool period ad?
This looks great... is it the Candyman's car? Bet you'll have fun adding dust and mud!

Too sporty for the candyman. He might be seen driving this one though. :)

would make a great opening to a scene...first the poster image...then poster image animated scene...then changes into real life...only it isn't real footage its actually...CG! how cool is that people expect it to go to film but goes photoreal instead.
(illustration, animated illustration, photoreal animation)
as for animation subject...and advertisment at the end of day...but i'm sure people on here can come up with something more creative. "honey your new car is here" etc "should be a charming companion for a busy day"...dunno magazine add or what not sure hard to tell...loads of potential.
both cars are looking stunning i must say...
