View Full Version : Samsung 226BW and GeForceGT. Any sense?
pwallin 07-11-2008, 08:17 AM Is there any sense to buy 22" Samsung Syncmaster 226BW for a machine that has a NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT (AGP) card?
I mean Samsung has a maximum resolution of 1600 but my card has only 1280. I suppose that getting sharpest image you must use that high 1600 res mode, is that right? So I assume that using lower resolutions makes image softer or something?

LCDs are different than CRTs. They have a finite number of pixels. Therefor the maximum resolution IS the optimal resolution. Anything less and you'll get blurry images cause the system will scale up you images to fit the lower resolution.
At 1680x1050 (that's th resolution of a 22") the only difference between a 6600 and a 8600 is that probably the 8600 is faster (read more FPS in games)
Hope that helps

Thanks! but I'm in an impression that 6600 can't go up to a 1680 :(
What kind of graphics card supports so high resolution and fits to an AGP slot?

it's been a long time (I now have a mac book pro), but my 6600 on my last pc supported the resolution of 1680x1050 really well. Not super fast, but worked without problems.

Ok, I found out that by default my card was not showing all resolutions (it used to hide resolutions that my crt would not support). Now I see that card can go up to a 2048x1536 res :)
Problem solved, now I buy new monitor :))
Thanks!
