hey, is there some way to "average" two splines together and get a third in the middle? it seems like a pretty simple thing to do.. just wondering if im missing something...

It sounds script-able, if nothing else. What are your expectations when averaging the splines? Should each spline have the same number of knots? Of segments? Would you expect to set the number of knots in the resulting spline explicitly? Should it average where it finds corresponding knots, or by relative distance or percentage along each spline? Would you need it to update when/if the input splines are changed?

There are a lot of ways in which this is left up to interpretation, but any way it comes down I think a script could be written. In fact, maybe it has been (check scriptspot.com)!

ok, most (all? ) of that went riiight over my head.. but.. basically my idea was this..

you have a polygon (in the geometry sense) w/ 4 splines as sides. you want to add a third point in the middle of two of the splines, so you have that to connect somethign outside the polygon to, but don't want to disturb the surface created but the 4 orginal splines... so it seems like if you average the two side splines you should be able to get a third that would be the "average" of the other two which you could then place in the center of the polygon and have that third point on the OTHER two splines, and still have the original surface of the polygon.. can i BE any more confusing?

i found Polymagus2.0 beta 005, but the "averaging" tool isn't relaly what i mean..

i hope that makes sense.. if not.. hmm.. shoot me..

thanks!

Confusing as heck:surprised

I like pictures. Do you have any way of showing me what you're after?

Add a few segments between the splines, select the new segements, and click Divide. Then connect the new anchors and delete the divided segments...?

Or maybe copy the splines, Surface, convert to E-Poly, select the E-Poly's line down the middle and Make Shape...?

If all you want is a point to connect to try using the midpoint snap on the poly..........just a guess
