View Full Version : mapping volumetric lights
Jacobo 05-27-2003, 03:13 AM Hi;
Is it possible to map a texture file onto the volumetric emission of a spotlight? I have been trying to get the volumic streaks of a spot light to pick up the color of a map but have been unsuccessful so far? Any help appreciated...

As far as I know this is not possible to do that in XSI, although it was in SI3D. Go figure. If someone found a trick, please share.
There is a solution, although it is far from being convenient. You can set a volume_effect shader where you want your light affect the scene. Put a projector on the light, and the volume_effect will do the rest. Good luck messing with the volume_effect.

You can also stick a texture mapped grid in front of the light too.

Argh what was I thinking?
Although it is still not the ideal solution, as it can involve increase of rendering time. Though it still beat the volume_effect approach...
