I'm using CS3, and there was a tiny feature in my Windows version I used to use all the time - I can't find in my Mac version, and can't find it in the Windows version anymore either!

If I drew a shape with the Rounded Rectangle tool, I could change the radius WHILE dragging out the shape (this also meant I could change the number of sides of the Polygon autoshape), possibly by pressing the [ and ] keys.
Now it won't let me - I can only adjust the value beforehand, which is not helpful at all.

I pressed everything I could think of, but no dice. Any ideas as to what's going on?

Incidentally, i'm sure there used to be a Star Tool (you could adjust how far the 'spikes' came out as well as how many there were), but it seems to have vanished.

(I found a thread for this by searching the forum, but the answer didn't help me and the thread was archived)

I don't know about adjusting the rounded rectangle in Photoshop, never saw that before. Are you thinking of Illustrator? You can use command (on mac, probably ctrl in windows) to adjust the spikes of a star and ctrl to adjust the rounded rectangle.

The star in Photoshop is included in the polygon tool, in the options bar there is a little drop down menu at the end of the row of shape buttons (a triangle pointing down). The tooltip that appears on the menu is "geometry options" although that term does not appear in the help files.

Are u sure you're not thinking of Flash? I know you can do it there, but don't think you can in PS.

"Way back when, I had an issue with having to double-click the rectangle tool to add rounded corners to a rectangle object in Flash. Not sure who told me at MM at the time, but you can simply hold the mouse button when inserting a rectangle on the stage and hold down the up or down arrow keys to adjust the rounded corners *real-time*!"

If you're talking about what it sounds like to me then all you have to do while dragging the shape tool to move it while changing it's size is to hold down SPACE.
