So I am working on a spot which has roads 'growing' on to the screen and am having a hard time with the textures. The roads are created by extruding a profile curve along a path and keying the values of the curve.

I have created a procedural material and it looks great but as the roads animate on the texture scales with the road. When the road starts building the texture repeats the designated number of times but is super compact. As the road grows the texture scales to the proper size.

Thanks a bunch for your help.

u need not 2 animate d Curve, just have d Whole model in ur scene.

try a Grayscale RAMP....and plug it in2 d TRANSPARENCY Channelof ur model..

and Animate the transparency....

lemme know if ne issues...

^ is a painful reply.

have you got uvw mapping on the roads? if you do, the object will move throguh the mapping (no tiling, stretching ect), as aposed to the map adjusting.

or you can aniamte the opacity of the texture moving to reveal the roads, unless the roads them self are moving.

hhhhmm, probly wont help too much.

If it's just the procedural, it might be possible to change it from using local-space to using world space. That would keep the procedural fixed while letting the mesh move. Of course, it depends on what software you are using...

Thanks for the replies. the roads are textured with orange and white racing stripes so the texture has to be applied locally. I might try to animate a black and white ramp and animate the opacity which will simulate the road growing on. :argh:
