View Full Version : crazy rotation stretching
Someone might have posted an issue like this before, but i don't know what term to search for if so. So if it has been, sorry.
But i get this odd stretching whenever i rotate my model. It's really annoying and i don't know hwy it's doing it!!
I've frozen it, deleted history, tried importing it into a new scene... i can't think of anything else.
Is there a fix for this?!

Is there a transform node above it or group that has been scaled un-uniformly?
make sure it isnt a child to a non-uniformly scaled object / locator. (an extention to what gmask said)
um, not sure. When you freeze an object, doesn't it set the scale back to 1 anyway?
I have scaled objects in the making of it, but then what is the fix for it?

Yeah but that doesn't matter if the object is parented to another object that has non-uniform scale.
Is tyour modle a tank? Is the turret parented to the body.. is the body scaled non-uniformly?
"I have scaled objects in the making of it, but then what is the fix for it?"
Yes and yes. I don't understand... so are you suppose to never use non-uniform scaling when making your model?
What is the fix... do i needa reset something?

Unparent the turret from the tank and then freeze tranforms on the tank body and reparent the turret to it.

I'm almost sure that if u will delete the maya configuration in My docs/Maya/5.0 (or whatever version u own) Maya will run normally. Of course it is the last helpdesk. If even this doesn't work u should reinstall Maya. I know that it is not a professional solution but it may be easier and fasterthan more professional way. It is easiest. if u have some configuration like shelves u may backup the,m or selectively delete unneeded configuration files on your drive . I assume that u R using windows system. Wish you luck!
Bye!

Prefs and the install are not the problem here... thanks ;-)

select the turret, press the up arrow key to get to the group and then ungroup everything. freeze transformations, rotate the turret to make sure the problem is fixed. you're havin' a double transform issue so it's screwin' up somewhere in the heiarchy i believe. if your turret is parented to anything do as the others said before and unparent it. if it's part of a group ungroup it. then freeze transformations on everything, delete history if you have to and then regroup it.

I would deffinatly have top agree with gmask on this ... there is no doubt that you have the turret parented to an object with a non-uniform scale....
so what you can do is grab the turet in its zero rotate position (i assume that it still looks normal with no rotations) then just group it.... by hitting ctrl+g then try to rotate the turret... should not get the shearing/streatching thing...
hope that helps...
Thanks for all the help guys, especially gmask!
I couldn't try anything out till i got home. I just unparented it and re-froze it, and it's good now.
I didn't know that you HAD to uparent it to fix it, i figured it would just freeze them as is... oh well. It's good now, thanks!
