View Full Version : Basic Birail Problem
mwilding 07-09-2008, 06:10 PM I am creating a shoe and stuck near the beginning :( I am getting a problem when I birail. As you can see from the images I am getting some kind of overlap when I birail the sections and I can't figure out why. I have checked all the cv's and directions of curves and all is well. Can anybody suggest what the problem is? I have also included an image of the basic curves outline.
Thanks.

Hi Micheal
to birail in maya the cleanest way is to use
an enclosed 4 curve patch, although you can
use curve that extend past the patch (I wouldn't advise this)
you can cut the curves using the cut curve tool or right click
on curve -choose 'curve point' click to create a point
on the curve then 'detach curve'
holding 'v' to point snap each curve end, then rebuild
using the 'match knots' option for each parallel pair
(if you shrink the nos of cvs your curve may lose its snap)
If you still have problems delete history on the curves
and check the script editor for feed back
Honestly, maya is not a good program for this method of modelling
I recommend you use Rhino 3D or if you want to work in polys
try Silo or Modo
good luck
