Quick and dirty: Clone your fountain, shift the birth timewise and crossfade the fountains vibilities.

Just add an pingpong or w/e out of range type to the particle birth rate event in the curve editor?

in your birht operator, start at -20'000 or something like that and finish at 100'000 or more. and choose rate instead of amount

Thanks for the reply guys you all gave hints to the right direction - It solved the problem. The fountain is now turning on and off as it should for unlimited frames.
