CGTalk - Help with portrait

I am painting a series of portraits to help with my switch to digital painting. It has been going well so far with only one hangup. 2 of the portraits have beards, actually more of a stuble, but I am having trouble making this part look convincing and non-digital. I am using photoshop CS2. Does anyone have advice for me?

Try using custom brushes that are speckled?
