Tutorial :http://www.3dimensions.us/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=17&Itemid=64
PLEASE GO TO Step 9 - 13 Section : Do the Shape
Here is a screenshot of my problem combined with a small description below.
Screenshot : http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk200/neilbagley/Evidance.jpg
Problem :
As you can see in the left viewport there is a smooth hole straight throught the center of the object. as can be seen in the render
I belive this is my fault in step 9 , but ive also tryed using weld core which did nothing...
Finaly ive Uploaded the file here > http://www.mediafire.com/?kmvbmmqmzmg

Your Center treshold(?) of the lathe modifier is probably too high, that's why all the vertices(top and bottom) get welded causing the weird shape.
Either decrease the treshold(if possible at all) or weld later on after converting into an editMesh and weld them in two steps(one fpor the top, one for the bottom vertices)

How would i alter the treshold?

Could you explain this in a little more detail

It looks like you have a segment down the center or your spline path. Delete the segment and it should be fine. When lathing an object like this, you dont want your path to be a "closed" path.

can anyone help with this i have a 1 week deadline with my work.
Do a search in the manual for the F3/F4 functions, and while you there take a look at the cut tool.

thank you for your comment but if theres a manual ive lost it lol. ( i understand the cut tool now anyway)
it says
Rem: To have the same view don't forget to check Smooth + Highlights and Edged faces on the top view
yet i have Smooth + Highlights and Edged faces on and this is what i get

Please help 6 days to go !
Install the manual from youre CD,s, or dowload them from the autodesk site.
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/item?siteID=123112&id=9861621&linkID=5604642 (this is 3dsmax8,almost the same as 7)
And for youre grid, maybe the reference plane(top) is in the way, move it a bit down.
Select the can and hit F3/F4 and you should see it(if it,s there)
Still no luck, then send the file, including de reference in a zip and ill will take a look at it.
reference 3dsmax7: http://fungeek.blogspot.com/2007/05/3ds-max-7-reference-volume-1-2-3.html
