View Full Version : scene: desert dolphin
Johannet 05-26-2003, 08:39 PM Hi
this is my first post in this great forum.
http://www.johannet.de/dolphin_web3.jpg
as you can hopefully see, it is a dolphin making its way through the desert.
it is a composite of three pictures and was entirely done in photoshop.

wow.. great idea..
but the dolphin is wet while he is on the sand.. little weird..
but great work..
i must agree that it looks a bit wired the dolphin being wet while on the sand... other than that ... great work ! nice dolphin model ... and very realistic texture of it ... and the integration is very nice ... really good work :)
P.S. : you should smooth the shadow on it.... loks a bit fake on it try to blur it a bit and make it more soft ...

Guys i think it's pretty obvious that the dolphin is SWEATING. That's why it looks wet. hehe actually i have no idea and would like to see a wireframe of it. :)

thanks for the critiques
and thanks in believing in my modeling skills, but as i said, the picture was completely done in photohop
i downloaded three images from the internet(dolphin, desert, sky)
and composited them in photoshop.
i didn't add dirt to the dolphin, because i didn't want to make the image THAT realistic. it is supposed to be a dolphin diving in the sand completely as if it was water.
@olix: thanks, the shadow needs some work, but since i have no shadow reference in the desert image, it was hard to make a good look for it

and one more thing
i never seen so much clouds in a desert ;)

the clouds weren't their in the original picture.
but the plain gradient of the sky was pretty boring
so i added another sky with a few clouds and matched the colors
but it's not THAT special to have so much clouds above a desert...

Wow!! The great idea is the best part of it. And that's important, so take it as a compliment. Great execution too!
Actually, I would, if anything, sharpen the shadows. You wont find blurry diffuse shadows in a sunny desert.
But since you've put in some clouds it is plausable because the cloudy sky would probably blur the shadows a bit.
Overall, an excellent composite!:buttrock:
