I was wondering I'm currently a Maya user and have been for about 10 years. I have had a couple hands on sessions with XSI on my time working in 3D but with the features list for XSI and my growing frustration over the mismanagement of Maya under Autodesk I'm considering jumping ship.

My question is this. How does the maintenance compare to Maya.

For instance with maya you pay your for you software and then you pay for a years maintenance. With that you get any upgrade that come up during that maintenace period. Then you just renew you maintenance every year and you will always have the latest version. Does something like this exist with XSI Advanced? and if so how much is it yearly?

Maintenance for XSI is pretty much the same of platinum for Maya.
You buy your license and at purchase (and then every year after that) have the option to put it under maintenance.
That entitles you to any and every upgrade released under maintenance, technical support (which unlike some other companies' is worth having) and two chocolate chip cookies.
For the price just contact sales@softimage.com or the closest Avid|Softimage reseller.

Any information regarding upgrades from Essentials V5 or V6 for non maintenance users?

Keep in mind, the XSI update cycle (for magor versions) is about 18 months, if that matters to you.
