Hi, this is my first attempt to use Wings, what I'm trying to do is a cartoony pig and at the moment I'm stuck doing the ears. I seem to be unable to mirror the same work that I'm doing on the left ear, I'd like to be able to move faces around and have the same deformations reflected on the other side of the face and using the mirror function has me select a face and thus mirrors the whole thing and end up with a siamese pig.....

Use virtual mirror instead of mirror. It's in the Tools menu

.......... after cutting the pig in half down its main centreline, of course :)

(Select the central edgeloop and use Edge | Loopcut then discard the unwanted half)

If the large central (mirror / VM) face isn't flat, select it and use Face | Flatten -> X (or Z, probably)

With this face selected, apply Tools | VM as suggested.

(VM Freeze essentially joins both halves back together so that you can modify one half without the other being affected)

pp

(If you've not already found it, you might find Tools | Tweak quite useful for some of this sort of stuff)

There's a bit about tidying up distorted mirror faces at the end (bottom) of this page

Never thought of cutting it in half!
