Blur Studios has another feature lined up in the queue, this time with Eric Powell's The Goon comic being prepped for a feature. This comes after the new Heavy Metal feature was announced months ago, and is the second announced project with David Fincher involved.

even if Fincher has a producing role. I think this would make a good contender as the grittiest CG animated feature outthere. Which would be a great thing for the animation industry. I always thought Pixar would be the first studio to attempt and probably succeed in a more gritty style but good to hear that Blur is goona make a crack at this. :)

YEAY!! a non cutesy talking animal in buddy/family story CG animation.

I really don't see Pixar doing something like this, they're a one trick pony, they'll stick to their family oriented formula. No way they're gonna do anything dark or gritty.

Man I have been wishing for a Goon movie ever since I read the first issue of the comic. It is hands down the funniest comic ever written. I can't wait for this!

Glad to see Blur go into CG features full force.

Edit: "KNIFE TO THE EYE!!" better be in it! or else..

No way they're gonna do anything dark or gritty.Of course Pixar's not going to do something like this; they repeatedly explain in interviews, movie commentary and making-of featurettes that their goal is to produce films that people of all ages will get something out of.

While that does limit their scope, in a way, I wouln't necessarily call them a one trick pony. They've made movies ranging from super heroes to talking animals. While all their movies have been "family" films of one sort or another, they definitely have some variety.

Yeah i'm looking forward to this I spotted a sculpt of The Goon at www.creaturehaus.com (http://www.creaturehaus.com) under Michaels portfolio and it really nails the character. Just wish they would make T.V series of Y:The last man then i'd be happy forever.

I always thought Pixar would be the first studio to attempt and probably succeed in a more gritty style...It's that "family" film part that I was referring to when I said one trick pony. Too bad really, I wouldn't mind a more adult oriented CG animated film like Grave of the Fireflies, wouldn't even have to be half as sad.

Back to topic. This really does look very interesting. Hope it'll be a box office hit and start a new CG animation trend.

*cough* (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Carter_of_Mars_%28film%29)Does it really count being half live action as rumoured? And it could end up being like Space Jam for all we know. :D

As far as I've heard, only Heavy Metal and The Goon, but there's always the oft-rumored Rockfish feature with Vin Diesel's involvement.

That's great if Blur get's the project. Judging by this "No studio is yet attached, and deals are being negotiated. Dark Horse, which has a first-look deal with Universal, is aiming to develop the project in-house before setting it up" doesn't sound like it's final yet, but really hope Blur gets to do it.

Blur is doing Heavy Metal and The Goon? Oh man, this is exactly what the US animation industry needs; a big, high quality reminder that animation doesn't always have to be family entertainment.

So this is coming out before Heavy Metal?

That sounds great! Goon is consistantly funny, I think the transition to 3d feature will really be a great.

It is awesome to hear that Blur is making a transition over to the big screen. Ive always loved their game movies and definately can't wait to see them in theatres...especially since the Goon is nice & dark...they can definately have a lot of fun working on something like this.
