Not my first head, but the most accomplished... Its supposed to be the first of a serial, I hope I will find enaugh time to use it as base for new ones... Created in maya 4.5, head took me around one week to make (only night work...), rendered with maya based renderer, with fake domelight (multi directionals lights). Take about 15 minuts to render?

very nice work indeed, man. The hair is incredible, and the character is very stylized. The textures are very nice as well, and the lighting completes the effect. How did you do the hair and the textures?

Very nice work but I have to agree about the eyes. Too glassy and a little bit of a vacant look.

Other than that..... good job.

Can you post some detailed wireframe of the creases on the mouth, because is such a difficult part for me, IŽd really apreciate that, and how do you do the texture? Do you paint it all in photoshop, or do you paste photos?

this is such an awsome piece. how come there has no rating and no replies.

sebcesoir :

You really need a good lighting setup to define some contrast where somewhere should be in shadows.

Great job!
Ears need work, though, and something about the transition at the hairline seems peculiar. Nostril openings seem hazy compared to the lips and eyes...

How do you manage to get those eyes, they are perfect, a little too reflective but they got life. Can you tell me more about them, maybe a tutorial.

Thanks guys!
Ive noticed I had a problem with lights : My character is very darked highlighted... Maybe a fake domelight problem..
The domelight highlight character from the top.. I think I should rotate it, to target the face, near front, instead of targeting from top... About the ear.. I made it fast, and did'nt want to spend long time (lasy boy.. :(

About the hairs : the big and boring part... In fact, Its many plans. I spend long time to copy same plan around the head. SO!!! For transpancy, each plan have a local planar projection, BUT for the color, I use the same global projection as the head, it gives an homogenic color, same as the head below. I use local and global texturing. I thing its very usefull...

About the eyes... I'm not absolutly satisfied... I think they shine a bit too much, but I like it... I shoulde hav moved it to look at us.. It would be more natural... Its just a ball, wiithout reflext, with eye texture, and shaped like a real eye (roudness, black hole), and a second ball around all with reflection, and Some bump too.

For rendering, the skin has many textures : color, spec, reflect, and translucense, under the nose and on ears. That give the illusion that skin is a bit transparent, like a lighted candle... Its a bit hard to set it up, because rendering time is very long on my poor p800 8o(

Thanks guys for your comments ;)

First this is very impressive,
i notice some problems however; the eyes are as everyone said glass like and the distance at which they are focused give a vacent expression. The ears look a little soft on the render, this is probably due to the difference in the textures (the face textures are fantastic and the ear texture is not of the same quality).
the lips seem to be slightily too fat for the width of the mouth, however if is based on colin farrell then maybe it is accurate.
Even with this said, it is a very high quality piece of work. You say the hair was a lot of work, but it is realy convincing
i'm looking forward to the updated version :)

About the ears, I add a very light deth of field, thats why its so much blured, but texture quality must be same as face textyre I think... But the modeling of hear was fast executed...
I will create new eyes... Maybe on my next character... I will put soon wire frame and some other things as soon as possible...
Thank you for your interest guys....

Pretty good work.

Some crits. The nostrils need some depth to them though and the ears too. Also, the skin texture in places makes him look like has some sort of rash (especially his forehead). Another thing, watch how much shading or depth you have under his eyes (the eyes also stand out way to much... to sharp... tone down the reflections).

It's a good model and you have a nice start! Good luck!

I will create better looking eyes as soon a possible, and work more on ears... I will also rotate a bit the domelight to have a better illumination....

The eyes look good but don't really fit the model. I like the detail in the iris. The only thing is...does an eyeball have a bump texture like that? I thought it was basically smooth.?

The eye ball is kinda like 2 balls joined together, with a lower ball being visible. If you think about the size of an eye socket and then roll your eyes upwards you'l kinda get what i mean. Its hard to explain ><

As for the model i have to agree on the 'glassy' eyes, it drew my attn first. The hair is amazing, however teidious it was it was worth it. The ears do look strange on the model, maybe longer time spent on the texturing, it lets the render down almost.

Why isn't this on the frontpage?

Hey Seb,I'm sure I've seen your model before.

Congratulations either way.
