i want to create some custom icons for my melscripts and was wondering if anyone knows what format they should be, (eg bmp, tif ) and also what size they should be as well.

thanks

Shelf icons can be BMP's, but icons to be used within a script need to be in the XPM format I think.

And there's a BMP to XPM converter over in the Global Tools section at Highend3D.

thanks for the reply. when you say an icon is to used within a script does that mean the icon is created automatically when the script is installed? but if i create a mel script and drag it on to the shelf i can just reference that mel icon to one that i made as a bmp, is that right? also do you know what resolution the icon should be?

thanks

its not a real ico file so transparency is not supported.
preferred background color is gray.
resolution is 24x24. but can be smaller, 32 bit color depth allowed.

Sorry I could have explained that better. What I meant was if you have a script like Connect Poly Shape or my Keyframer script that creates a toolbar of icons, they need to be in the XPM format.

All the rest can be bmps in the format butCherHeLL suggested.
