Hi,

Can any one tell me how I referencing my rig or any model in a new scene in Blender? So when I change the original file the new file will be update automatically. Like any other 3d app(XSI,Maya or Max...)

I believe you use File > Append.

Each Blender file is a database containing objects, materials, scenes and world. So when you append, you need to select your file first, then those categories will show up.

Hi dude,

I'm not talking about how to append.Talking about referencing.

Suppose, I made a rig, now I want to animate him in defferent scene depends on story. After some animation done, I decide to add some more extra control on him. So if i reference this rig then I need to update only the main file not individually every file.

But append is just appending, it does not carry any link between them. IS IT???

Please! help.

The manual explains it well. You might also look up proxys...

http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Manual/Using_Linked_Libraries

(The manual is a great resource put together by only a few great blender users.)

What chewedon pointed you to, is what you want, he just didn't explain too well, what you want to do, is link a group into your new scene(and remember to make your rig&mesh into one group first).

Go to 'File> Append or Link'

and you will get this window:
http://gallery.mudpuddle.co.nz/d/14691-1/linkgroup1.jpg
http://gallery.mudpuddle.co.nz/v/fktt/ImgTips/linkgroup1.jpg.html

Now as you probably already know or can guess,
you need to go to the file you want to link or append from,
and you will see as in the image above, multiple categories, one of them is group.

Click on it and you will be browsing any groups you have in that .blend file:
http://gallery.mudpuddle.co.nz/d/14693-1/linkgroup2.jpg
http://gallery.mudpuddle.co.nz/v/fktt/ImgTips/linkgroup2.jpg.html

Now as you can see there are 2 buttons more to click, first enable 'Relative paths'.
This is not necessary but if you have set your folders and sub folders up smart,
it will come in handy. :)

Second would be to change from Append option to Link,
this way the group won't be just copied to the new file but really linked,
so that you can edit the rig in the other file and then open the actual scene and the rig will be updated automatically!

Ok, and now just click on the group you want to link in to the scene,
and then push the enter key or click on the 'Load Library' button, and your done! :)

Hope this explanation helps. :)
