yo blackhorse...seems like everyone thinks it's a female.
I think it's because of the smooth lines.
He has no cheekbones!
And perhaps make the chin a bit flatter
BTW: great model

Thanks thanks!
a big hug!
LOL!
you are all right. sometime I could hardly find out where is not right because of the long time of being in the front of the CRT monitor. so you are indeed help me.
I put up a pic which display the record places I've fixed the model. I've shorten the "too much" parts. then you could see the updated pic. and you all just pick out where should be fixed next.
BTW, are the line of the lips too hard? I use tree lines to make the real shape I think.
see you soon!

Looks much better. I think the head is still a little bit big at the top but other than that looking very good. Notice that your side view is near perfect IMO, so by deduction, I think all of your proplems lie in the width proportions. Like I said, mainly I think it is only above the eybrows that needs real work.
The biggest problem is the chin. It's too male-ish and broad. Big chins are a symbol for strength and leadership. Without hurting any female person, but you better have small and slim chins with not too much hard shapes and muscles :)

Cynical_Saint -> I really found that the part above the eye browns need much more fix at first. but even after some modification of the forehead, it seems not very good now. the problem is: when i shorten the forehead's height in the front view, I find that the forehead would become too short in the perspetive view. you know, the camera makes the difficulty for the modeling. so I try to balance all the views. how about your method of dealing such problem?
Jabo -> yes, I'll fix the chin. thanx for the tip. it helps a lot. cheers.
I'll go on the WIP.
see you

I dont see the height of the forehead to be a problem. If you measure the head from top to the chin, the eyes should be at exactly the middle which it looks like they are a little low(perhaps the eyes could be a tad bit higher).
Its more in the width of the head at the eyebrow level and above.
Below is facial proportion as explained to me. Your proportions are just slightly off. Try moving things around a bit and see if it looks better. Heads don't always look perfect if you have perfect proportions. :)

Tell me if that image is confusing and I will try to explain it better. :)

Also, to answer your question. I don't think you need to shorten the forehead, I think you need to move the eyes and eyebrows up a bit as in the proportions pic I attached above. :)
Ok, it looks like you are using Maya, right?
The reason why it looks different in the front view as opposed to the perspective view is because Maya's front/Side/top views are Orthographic. Meaning there is no foreshortening. The perspective camera is setup to behave like a real camera, with a vanishing point and horizon.
The head is fine, you just need to setup your cameras properly. Go by what it looks like in the perspective view, and you should be fine. You can even play with the lens angle/FOV.

Nice work...
I think the remaining problem with the head being too wide is that the back part of the head (roughly starting behind the ears) seems to be bulging out more then the front. The ears still seem a little too small as well. There's lot of different ear sizes in the world, but if you stretch the tops of them up some, it will help the head not seem as tall (the top of my ears are level with the bottom of my eyebrows, for example).

oh really touching and helpful advice.
you told me the things I sometime ignore easily. thanks.
Cynical_Saint -> yes, I understand the proportions you said. and I also agree that the perfect things are not always become from the standard proportions. so I change some parts of the model a bit. but it is easy to make it beyond the good looking proportions.LOL! my question is : as you point out, the 1/4 --bottom of the nose, what is the meaning of it?
MadS -> yeah, bingo! Maya! your words are right. thanks a lot.
Keith Young -> you hit the point I think! so thanks for the tip. I 'll fix it right away.
see you

Those numbers are fractions of the total length of the head. So if you follow from top to bottom there are dividing lines. The first is half of the total length of the head. Then the bottom of the nose is down 1/4 of the total head. Then you go down 1/12 of the total to middle of lips, then down another 1/12 to the middle of the chin and another 1/12 to the bottom of the chin. If you add up 1/2+1/4+1/12+1/12+1/12, it equals 1.
So here is another way to think of it. If the head is 12 inches from the top to the bottom of the chin, then the middle of the eyes should be 6 inches down from the top, then 3 inches down from there to the bottom of the nose, then 1 inch down to middle of lips, 1 inch down to middle of chin and 1 inch down to bottom of chin for a total of 12 inches.
Make more sense that way? This is why I am not a teacher, not very good at explaining. :)

sorry abt this dude but it looks like something churned out from max's plugin head designer

It looks nice, albeit slightly 'generic' which I suppose is what the_zed_axis was getting at in a rather blunt way...
When I modelled my first heads, what I was told was to try not to get a too dense mesh.. This was really good advise, so I suppose I'm passing it on. You could probably achieve a very similar result with a mesh that is a lot less dense, and by using a less dense mesh it makes it a LOT easier to edit, both while modelling the base and while making blendshapes for facial animation.

it's a fine model, I'd say there's nothing wrong with the new head. It's not the most feminine female head around, but that's just fine, it has character, and with a few tweaks to give her age, style and attitude (I dunno, the graceful neutral skinhead is getting a tad boring).
For fun, I'd model her as a grunge rock-chick with tatto, face-rings and a serious bad-ass attitude.. now where's that rock-on smiley when u need it :)
