Hey, just a quick newbie question: I have the XSI Mod Tool for Source, and the default layout it just repulsive in all senses of the word. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to change the skin or something?

Sorry, it's not currently possible.

Dang. Cause I really don't like it to the point of distraction. All that grey and obnoxious generic buttons.

you can completely customize shelves with buttons, tabs, icons, you can change the layout a lot etc.
But color is a limitation. If you change the viewport color it gets better already...

That said, you can do a lot of customization (including colors) in the netview/synoptic views to customize your UI... But you need to know something about HTML/XML/Jscript.. at least.

I hear ya, it's a dark grey mess with barely readable text. I'm coming from Rhino and Maya and although I really like XSI I'm having a really hard time using it because of the murky interface, like you say it's to the point of distraction. I haven't found a solution for this so I'm simply turning up the brightness of the monitor...
As mentioned, brightening up the viewport background color helps a bit.

I'm still working on this, but would be nice to get your thoughts on the XSI interface, so I can see how much I can incorporate in my set of layouts and then share it.

That interface is very nice, and i would love to have it.
I have XSI but use Modo instead since the interface of XSI is so depressing and distracting.
Having this interface would encourage me to actually use XSI Foundation.
I like Modo, but with no 3D Connexion space mouse support I would prefer to use XSI, but as others have said here (and elsewhere) it is hideous and distracting (IMHO) and so I use Modo.

Former lightwave user? An interface like that is one of the main reasons I switched to XSI from lightwave. I consider XSI's current interface to be one of the best 3d interfaces I've ever used. It took some time, but I find it very intuitive after I got used to it.

That's some really good stuff you've got there :-) My only crit is that the interface colors are still murky (but maybe that's outside of what you aim to do), and that the icons are a bit large. An option for small icons would be nice, to be able to fit more of them on a single shelf. Have a look at the shelf layout in Maya. The icons in Maya are fugly and hard to read, but you can fit pretty much everything you need in one shelf for each kind of job.

Cool, thanks for your comment.
I'm rebuilding some of those tabs, I will see how can I have a "small icon" version. ;)

Nice job!
But, why icons as well as text on the left toolbar?
