Hi,

I am attempting to build a pop up book which animates - e.g. book opens flat and elements pop up from the pages to form a scene.
From the research I have done so far it seems that adding bones / joints to flat planes would seem like the best way to progress.
I've not really used bones / joints or IK before so if anyone could point me in the right direction to get started with this - tips, simple tutorials, best way to animate that would be great.
If anyone else has made a pop up book (or similar) I'd love to hear form you!

Thanks for your time,

Tim

using the Cluster deformer is also a good way to fold up paper.

funny, i am just working on some popup business card for myself. But not in C4D but with Paper and Scissors.

I played around a bit and came up with a very simple solution. No joints or ik needed. Depending on your popup-setup it might be right for you. Its for very simple popups, i guess.

watch a little video here:

With joints, aim constraints and lots of Nulls placed and constrained in the right way you can pretty much create any popup option, even very complex ones. It helps to design your popup with paper and scissors first and then translate it in scale to C4D, build the rig and add some subtle deformers later to create the effect of bending paper while the forces pull and push to open the popup.
Simple setups can be done just with contraints, no joints needed.
