View Full Version : hi, first model here...
Krisc 05-26-2003, 06:00 AM Hello, this is my first thread here! :wavey: I am 16 years old, I am a computer programmer and a hobby artist. I am trying to improve my skills because you people and your work are amazing. I know my models suck compared to yours, but whatever, I am learning, and having fun. I am using Rhino3D 2.0 and I don't fully understand it... Please, feel free to C&C (critique and what? lol)
without further adeu, I give you... Slayer

Hey there :wavey:
For a first post it is not bad at all.
Some tips for a better image though:
You could make it more interesting by putting it in a background.
Try to blend the different parts of the sword more into one object, right now it looks like all the different parts are glued together.
Lastly the sword is not really functiional, i think it would be pretty difficult to handle this sword without accidentally cutting your own wrist. :D
I hope this critique doesn't sound to harsh, but hey weren't we all beginners when we started doing 3D?
Keep working on 3D and don't let the really good models on this forum put you of. Let them be an inspiration to you

Ya, I realize it isn't functional, it was just something I doodled during class one day and decided to model it.
I will try blending the pieces together, but I don't know how well that will go. I guess I will get rid of the side pieces and make a different design instead. :bounce:
btw, these smilies rule!

Since they already mentioned that it's not really functional, I'll just add this.....
You should make the end blade, (the completely strait one), more interesting with to go better with the blade on the handguard. Maybe make it have some rounded edges instead of just flat, and since the blade on the guard is so big already, you could maybe make the end blade bigger too. It looks out of proportion.

Ok, well one of you mentioned it isn't rendered with any background and that kind of ruins it, well that got me thinking about another project I did where I drew a basic little night scene near a pipe attached to a brick wall...so I drew this lamp that will be attached to a wall which the sword will be leaning against or stuck in...thanks
all C&C is welcomed and encouraged!

UPDATE: I have gone ahead and added a few things like the wall, a pipe and a trash can as well as the sword...I can't get the lighting correct as I don't know how to control how bright it is other than to change the color or translucency of the object:light itself. tell me what you think about it so far please!

eeer.... i don't know why this sword is on a street from our days with a futuristic trash can... i mean, the background doesn't fit with the sword...:p
I think you should make the main blade bigger, wider and with some curves on it, as Jeebus said
keep experimenting new things!

nice first render.
I am going to have to play with the trash can, I am thinking of redoing it and making it like one of those wire trash cans. That would create a cool shadow effect.
