Inspired by rayfusion and by a sketch I made last week, I've decided to try my hand at modeling a Minotaur. After some thought, I decided to stream line his body a bit from what I originally drew in the conceptual drawing (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=64796&goto=newpost). I was going to use GMAX to model him but soon realized I just didn't have the skill for that yet, so I'm using Nurbs in Rhinoceros 3D.

I still have a lot of work to do n the head (like fixing the jaw line and adding eyes to name a few). Comments welcome.

This guy is really impressive... I like the style of your models very much

Are you doing the concept arts on your own? stupid wuestion I know, but they are great and I wish I could do such stuff like you (not the modling, I´m far away from that)

give us update from time to time please!!:applause:

Thanks! Yup, I do all my own concept stuff (unless I'm really inspired by someone else's art). Here's a minor update.

I added horns. They still need detailing but that will come after I finish the head.

great start man, but it looks too much like the otehrs, make him unique, minotaur doesn't mean 2 big horns, big muscles and bull head or human head.

lips are far too small for the size of teh face

Points taken bud. I adjusted the face and added some detail to it. I puffed up the lips a little, as you suggeted, Raul, but I don't want to give him "normal" lips. Still much to do....

...maybe this will just end up being a really big guy with horns.

Almost missed this one, very dramatic, love the style of the face and the proportions of the body. Your artistic ability is really showing through in your models, looking forward to the progress.

hi Teyon, nice to see some new stuff from you..

Hey, thanks gang! Nice to get some great feedback from everyone on this. :)

Yeah, Mushroomgod, I'm thinking of adding wings. :) I figure what the heck...the fun part about making your own stuff is you can change it anytime ya want. After some lunchtime sketches, I came up with a slight rework of the character with the wings added in a cave environment which has a ceiling that allows light through in pockets. Think "A Bug's Life" after the grasshoppers show up the frist time but darker.

I should have a new image to post for you tonight. Working on some more bits and will be attempting to model him in a posed stance (we'll see how that goes).

P.S. Hey, Mushroomgod, nice screws. :)

Hey, you know I never mind helpful crits, Raul, especially from an old pal. :) I think you're on point with the mace-spear thing...I've designed these three alternatives and will decide on one of them to model for him. In the meantime, I'll have a once over of my nurbs model. I'm working in halfs and mirroring only for posting wips and with nothing blended yet, alterations should be fairly easy (with the exception of the face). Let me know which weapon you all like best. It's about time I started modeling more than just the character and I think this is the model to get me on that path...

The blade in the center is my favorite, although the one on the right is nice too.

I like the one on the right the most; it's the most unusual (wich is  ) and it looks cool too.

wow wat version of rhino are u using? i used rhino too... but that was when it was still in it's early stages and it's renderer sucks ;(

are u using rhino's render?

oh yah btw it looks super cool and mean now ;)

for the weapon i would go for the right most ;)

minotuar actually seldom use blades..... from wat i know they uses more like hammers and axes don't they??

but nevertheless cool weapon design!

Thanks. Yeah, they are often seen using blunt objects in most illustrations but, I'm gonna go for a slightly different approach. besides, I think it's been pointed out that this is more of a demon than anything else, which is fine with me. I don't do many demons...aliens, creatures, sure, demons, not really.

I'm stuck using Rhino 1.1 because I lost my copy of Rhino 2 when I moved into my new apartment. I didn't realize it was missing until after I upgraded to XP and discovered it required a re-install of 2.0. The fine folks at McNeel are going to send me a copy of Rhino 3 at half price due to the mishap but I have to save up the cash for it first.

So, since it's Rhino 1.1, I am stuck with the crappy standard Rhino render (which really isn't that bad) and extremely limited blending functions (which is why nothing has been merged/blended yet). So, no fancy blends and no GI. Just a few spotlights and a dream. My friend Loganarts gave me a nifty idea for making a pseudo GI render with just spotlights but I can't for the life of me remember where I put it on my HD. That'll teach me not to name things properly.

Thanks again, now I'm off to model some more....

Started work on his legs. Again. :) decided I will have to redo his loincloth or give him a kilt or something. I also have to give him a groin/buttocks area. I also have to tweak his blends so that the shoulders don't look so odd.

Hmmm...I think the leg muscles should be tighter. Opinons?

Hmm I like it the leg mucles aren't as bad as you thought hey were, the only thing is they are a little high for where the crotch would go.

Minotaur-demon thingies seem to be popular these days. This is my fav so far, but whats up with his neck? Does he have a goiter or something? Hmm. Maybe he's a third world country minotaur-demon thingy.
