Troubleshoot : Move transform not working

yeah welcome to Max ;)

I've had stuff like that happen in the past, like you select an object, start moving but it teleports across the screen then starts moving from there :surprised

I usually close Max and restart it and all is back to normal.

Did you used to use Accurender? Have you given up on it?

Hey Jeteral, Two things that might help. First check that View is selected under the transform mode (not local, this can cause problems with lots of objs.) also under the hierarchy tab (with your obj. selected) click reset transform & scale. oh & reset x_Form might help. (Utility pannel)

if these don't help & you find out, post your results if you would.

Yes I have been using accurender now for a couple of years. I also use commotion animation extensions for accurender. I have always like the quality of rendering that you could get done with 3D Max though, and I definately like the reduced time it takes in animating as well in max. So I got an old copy of max, and I started working on it, and got pretty disgusted with my own learning curve, then I saw more 3dmax renderings. but the kicker was when I needed to do a 400x360 pixel animation with 800 frames, and i did it while traveling for 5 days, when I came back it still had about 40 frames to go. I said on monday im going to go to the bookstore and then im going to get on the internet and find some forums.

I did restart max and it worked again, im getting ready to try the other fix too, so that I can have that in my arsenal as well.
Here is my work in progress, any suggestions will help. Im still pretty nervous about modeling in max, but i just recently discovered that i can actually set the snap settings to endpoint, and midpoint, and tangent etc, at first i was only snapping to grids. Im more comfortable with accurender and autocad, but if I can get this max down I think that I can be hooked. I also enjoy music production, and so I am really excited about some of these max features.

thanks JC I am going to print this out so that I can have it in my reference in case it happens again, This particular thing made me quit max a couple of months ago, i was like screw this, it is too dogone hard. since then i have learned alot more. and have become even more inspired. I am getting more comfortable with applying materials and a tiny bit of lights, I neeeeeed to learn how to model. that being said, i havent even gotten to a tutorial yet for hierarchy or utilities. long way to go i presume. thanks for the help as well.

It is still happening, I try to move something over to the left, and it shoots to the right, WHAT IS HAPPENING WIth this thing
I cant even get this stuff done

What version of max is it?, I seem to remember having this problem with a dodgy version of Max 3, and it was incredibly frustrationg the only way I got around it was by deleting the
max.ini file and restarting,

but it would come back again after awhile so I soldiered on through it to get the project I was working on at the time by using the transform type in instead!

Never did get to the bottom of that one but still interested to find out if anyone else has

I am using Max 3.1
So far the only thing that has helped me at all is to just restart the machine.
maybe its because my max is so old. I dont know. I have had this thing for about a year now, and I am really just starting to explore it. This actually is what made me stop the first time. but im in tooo deep this time and I dont want to stop. So im just going to have to deal with it i guess

Have you tried deleting the max.ini file before you start up Max each time this happens?
