View Full Version : Item: Lavalamp
superfly18 05-25-2003, 11:16 PM I've sorta been working on this lavalamp picture cause i thought it'd be a nice idea.

On the left is a "crumbled" up coke can and on the right is a lamp that sorta fell down to the All Mighty LavaLamp.

I like the coke can. One thing I'de fix is the lava that's at the base. The one that's about to come up. Make it thinner in the middle, like it's stretching. It looks like it's just sitting at the bottom of the lamp and not moving up.

it looks good but its missing the light at the bottom of the lamp. If it were off, the "lava" inside would be all at the bottom.

i think the DOF is too much, and the cord is really really thick. other than that, it looks pretty nice. :)

like the earlier comments.
the DOF is too extreme
The lave lamp needs to illuminate/glow more (The globules should be lit from below)
The cord is too fat
and you should try replacing that plane with a table top.
too many perfectly spherical wax bits
and
finally :D
I think the proportion looks a bit off - although that could just be an angle thing.
what's the render engine?

I'm not sure what you rendered this with but I don't believe that the DOF is correct. When you look through the lamp I think the checkered bg should also be slighty blurred. I know that many render engines do not blur items in the distance properly when they are seen through a transparent material. The DOF is calculated on the final pixel and unfortunately not on where that pixel got its color from (ie the background). Other than that is looks pretty neat. Keep at it. ;)

I agree with everything above, the DOF is way off, i sugegst not trying to hide no environment with DOF. Also, it is a lamp, and there is a light bulb emiting light from the bottom, thus making the laval move, nice start.

Ok, ok! You caught me!! lol.
I added the DOF cause the enviroment was quite crappy. I'm going to place it on a small desk and pop that coke can in there as well.
I used the Cinema 4d rendering, and i noticed that when it did render that the squares inside the glass did not get blurred, i was like, "umm...ok?"
Yea, the cord was just some simple lofting cause i really didn't want to post the image and not have a cord and then people going, "you have no cord". I agree totally that it is too thick.
Anyways, thanks for all the comments and hopefully i'll have a new update.
