I'm aiming to relearn modeling w/ 3DS Max in order to have a good mix of both 2D and 3D for a game-company submissions portfolio. I learned some of the techniques in school a year ago but was left unsure about modeling afterwards and haven't really touched it since. After a year of illustration freelancing, I've decided to pick it up again and aim for my ultimate game-job dream.

The images below are based loosely on a tutorial from 3Dcreative for the Swordmaster, and what I got most from it was the relearning of the various tools in 3DS Max. I wanted to get some input from the crowd here on the quality of the model so far based on the wireframe and facets versions. The intent here is a low-mid poly count model (my own goal is 4000-4200 tris with base model and all accesories - armour, clothes, etc. - included, which is the approximate count of a World of Warcraft character model). No accessories have been done yet - I wanted to wait for some criticisms first.

Also, the model is currently at 2470 tris. Will the remaining ~1600 tris be enough for a reasonable set of clothing and other detail parts?

please let me know if the images should be presented in a different way to make viewing easier. Thanks in advance.

Hi, just some quick tips, the eyes are somewhat small, and so are the hands.

And about the geometry, the geometry around the butt seems a bit out of order, try to get some nice edgeflows when ure modeling something organic, in other words, try to have as few pointy corners as possible, you did this nicely around the legs.

One last little thing to worry about is she looks a bit masculine, this is mostly a mix of small things, but the jaw seems a little too broad and the bum is a bit flat. Try comparing her to some reference photos of normal humans and make adjustments.
Nicely done with the budget tho, u might have to delete some faces that wont show up once u have her dressed in order to keep it tho.

Thanks very much for the tips.

Here are my efforts at cleaning up and reshaping the model, which also resulted in a bonus of shaving off 40 tris:

* reshaped the jaw to be more v-like, and brought the temples in slightly.
* reworked the seams for the breast-chest area

* Broadened the hand and brought the butt out more.

* reworked the frame of the back and butt area for better edge lines.
