hi all,

UPDATE ON PAGE 4 !!!!!!

heres a updated render of my Honda S2000 model i did about a year ago. Im redoing the renders because i was never that happy with the ones i did originally (you can see them on my site).

I think there about 95% finished, if i can get them to a standard that im happy with ill have a go at submiting them for "Expose" (fingers crossed)

let me know what you think

oh...do you think the car is to yellow or need more yellow?

Woo!

Looks as lovely as ever... :D

The only thing that looks a shade odd is the material on the alloys - just looks as though the reflections need a touch more contrast. But it's only in the 'front on' shot, and to be honest with all that sumptuous detail you've piled in, who gives a s**t! :D

Desktop sized renders the people cry! :scream:

beautiful model...love to see some wires also....as far as the color...maybe just a tiny bit more yellow (seems a little under saturated) and your blacks are a little to washed out...(ex. the tires are almost grey instead of black rubber) ... but again beautiful...I love the interior...hope to see more...

real cool!

Very cool model and render :applause:

Perhaps you could work more on materials for wheels and interior components, because they don't look as realistic as the car body does :)

Looks good but the tires still need alot of work imo. You've got almost luminous looking tires on top of a deep black sahdow area. I understand that there is supposed to be a good deal of white light reflected from the ground, but the undercarriage of cars are generally a bit darker. Especially with that deep a shadow.

NICE! again another car without any Tire valves! I mean how are you supposed to put air in those tires? hehe Coolc ar though and a good job modeling it :)

Great start...a few C&C...

- Make the turn signals orange.

- The piece around the windshield where the top seals should be black.

- Tires are too wide, flat, and luminous.

- The under-car shadow looks way too sharp

The only "wrong" thing I can make out is the enviroment :D
Give it some enviroment, and the car textures won't look so lonley anymore :)
btw. It's a superbe model, love all that detailwork you put into it!

I remember your first renders of this car... very impressive.
Cant wait to see the final pic.
You really should place this thing in an environment or something.

Keep it up,

I must say, those tires are getting way too much light. they are almost glowing. i took a look at your old renders, and they look MUCH better. the reflections look a hell of a lot better than the new ones especially. oh yeah, do you have any rear shots? seems like you are neglecting the rear :( Do the tail lights have a material or just colored blinns?

Where are the windshield wipers?

tjbeseda
05-25-2003, 09:26 PM
dmeyer is right in one way, the windshield piece needs to be black and a bit thicker. but whatever you do, do not change the turn signals to be orange. anyone who is anyone [including myself] that buys an s2000 changes the ugly orange corners and turn signals. leave em the way you got 'em. looks great!

great modeling job and nice rendering...

The only thing I can say is that the car looks too perfect. If you are going to that sharp no flaw CG look, you have it. But if you are going to more of a realistic fasion, you need more "dirt" in the interior. They look too plain and flat. May a small, very small noise or bump map will just stir it up just enough. The tries need to be a bit darker, nice new car, old looking sun beaten tires.

But the modeling is amazing and I bet that took you a long time.

I bet you used Max am I right?

Anyways.. just a little adjustments here and there and it could almost be photorealistic.

Nice work,
Scott

AMAZING! :buttrock: :buttrock: :buttrock:

the only crit is that you have to put some specular/reflection on it's tire...

keep up the good work!

thanks all for the great comments!!!!!:applause:

heres an updated render...hopfully it looks a little better.

darker tyres/a little bit more yellow/ softer shadow (though still to dark)

http://www.mushroomgod.com/hondasidetwo.jpg

Sheep Factory: thanks for the front page plug!!!!

AJ_23, hopfully now fixed ?

Raul-Reznek, lol i know what you mean...i dont think ill ever model another car...not unless somone payes me ofcourse ;)

MDB101, if i get the render looking better ill model some up. :applause:

dmeyer, i tryed it black and dident like it, looked a bit overpowering if you know what i mean?

coCoKNIght/DivideByZero, im going for that "studio look", i dont know if thats what it looks like but thats what im going for :surprised

slice56, you like my first renders more? now youve got me thinking....you may be right...its very easy to loss you way when working on somthing like this....i may have gone too far and not even realized....anyone else have any thoughts? :wip:

jdevin, eek!!!! i knew i was forgeting somthing, i modeled some whipes when i modeled the car (last year) and never imported them.....ill try to get them on the next render

the only reason i like the other renders better is because the bg is blue. for some reason, that white is too bright for me. I think it just looks better in a color enviro. gives it more life. any way you could render it in a red bg? the same color intensity as the one on your site, just red. pretty please ;) i want to see if it looks good in a red bg :D

oh yeah, the tires are just right now ;)

great model.the mesh is very clean. i really like the reflections. how did you do it. hdri maps or just regular refections.

Great Model Mushroom,

The only minor crits I have are:

A: The shadow seems to still be a bit too sharp and dark (when lighting with those long, reflective light boxes in live action, there is so much diffuse light ---especially against a pure white limbo or cyc---that there are lots of bouncing rays and therefore things usually tend to get a little lighter). It's a difficult thing to balance because you still want the car to appear grounded and not blow out the shadow. One way to achieve this might be to make the shadows darker @ the contact points with the environment, under the tires. Think about it like this, light is energy, and with each bounce a portion is absorbed by the surface, and a portion is reflected (i.e. bounced). In areas where the light is bouncing at shorter and shorter angles, it is losing energy at a more rapid rate. This is the case with most G.I. or occlusion based solutions (Think about lighting the corner of a room w/ G.I. it gets darker @ the corners generally, because as the walls converge, the light bounces more and more). I hope that made some kind of sense....

and...

B: From the earlier renders, the interior materials (the seats, dash, etc.) seem a little plastic IMHO.

and finally...

C: GREAT GREAT WORK!!! Nice modeling, lighting, rendering etc. Even if you did not touch the image @ all anymore, it's pretty freaking amazing. GREAT WORK!!!!

Awesome rendering. I agree the tires are a bit thick and the shading still is quite up to the standard of the rest, but I'm just nit picking I suppose... I'd love to see this in expose. The interior looks really inviting too!

Only crit I'd make that doesn't seem to have been already mentioned is the headlight covers which IMHO are 'too clear' compared to pics I've seen and make thay yellow strip on the outside look a bit avant garde.. but it always was a good model and it hasn't changed in that respect innit. :D :)

Wow that's a sleek render. I all for the yellow shader. It looks magazine quality. The tire material (it's been said before) looks like it has some of it's own luminosity. Make them darker and yes the shadows are too defined for that type of environment. Don't put the car in an environment with other objects. It looks very classy on white. I don't know why, but something about the shader says, "real, but airbrushed" and I really think it looks good on the plain white paper. Excellent job.

But it seems to be a problem with the shadow under the car and the lightning effect on tires :annoyed:

Very, Very nice work. The only thing I see is in the 2nd shot (the ground-level camera) that the tires aren't shaded very well. That's to say, that perhaps they're not dark enough underneath. They have a kind of "floaty" feel now.

Fantastic job!!!

That is the most flawless design of a Car I have seen with maya. Any of my designs in Maya are either HUGE polly counts, or look very low polly. You have seem to found a perfect middle. I too would love to see how you made that great shader. Also, what lighting are you useing? I have a Global Lighting plug-in called GI_Joe, but its not doing the job. Are yours hand made?

WChestnutt

maya eh!? was it rendered with maya's native renderer?

mushroomgod

heres a update....i think it looks better?:surprised

http://www.mushroomgod.com/newnewtopcgtalk.jpg

sorry to disapoint some people but the car was only modeled in maya...the renders you see here are vray renders (3dsmax).

Cube6, wallpaper will come as soon as its finished

Ultragames, never went away

yaong2, thanks!!

Hyperman/unknown limit, modeled in maya using Subds, and rendered using vray in max. The paint shader that i created iv basically the same as this one---

http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6980

and the reflections where created by placing a very bright plane above the car with alot of illumination (hope that makes sence)

Stryker, thanks m8, when its finished I will submit it to the 3dm gallery:thumbsup:

Ultragames, iv tryed GI_Joe and it works ok in most cases...try using a plugin called "sky", you can DL from highend. Very good but very slow

thanks again all

thanks for the tip on getting that reflection!!
well it looks like max is the next program i get...
i just can't get over how wonderful it looks!, the mesh is sooo smooth! and the textures are brilliant!!

i prefer the one with shadow being cast into the car, looks more real!, although it could do with a little more illumination in the interior.

you are a great inspiration! cant wait to see more of your work...

one thing though, how did you go about modeling the interior???

Thanks,

Will

ps. a close up on the insides would be nice.....

Ultragames
05-26-2003, 08:54 PM
Thanks, ill check it out. Yeah GI_Joe can be ok. But if you have shapes that intersect, you get a bleeding shadow, where there shouldn't be one. I think I'll stick with Mental Ray or GI_Joe for animatins, but if sky is good, I'll use that for my stills. Thanks. And keep up the great work. Can wait to see more stuff

ooooh sexay!

heh, the only thing i see that stands out, is the interior is either blue or lambert grey ;) I really think you should change the specularity of some things, like the leather shift boot etc etc. also, some of them should be darker colors of grey. to me, it all just looks too uniform.
