View Full Version : Creating Normal Map in ZBrush 3.1 isn't doing anything?!?
Guibou 07-02-2008, 12:58 AM Hi i've created a mesh in 3DS Max 9. I unwrapped it in 3DS Max and exported the mesh as an OBJ. I've done all my high resolution modeling in ZBrush 3.1 and i'm ready to create a Normal Map.
I've gone in the Tool Menu under Normal Map.
I have the Tangent buttong ON
NMRes is at 2048
The Adaptative button in ON
When i press on Create NormalMap button nothing happens...
If anybody could help me that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks dudes and dudettes

That button is a relic from the past (aka, doesnt do anything). Read up on Zmapper (or click the button with the same name):D

Button works for me.
Did you step down to the lowest resolution subdivision you want to recieve the normal map?
ZMapper is probably a better solution however

It does? which version. All I know is that it wasnt working (and wasnt meant to work afaik) in zb3.0. After that I just assumed it was replaced for 3.1.

How odd!
I'm using 3.1
In fact, I used it to generate a map just last week.
I had a model with 7 subdivisions. I stepped down to level 4, used tangent, nmres 2048, adaptive on, pressed the button, and a normal map was sent to the texture palette.
I still recommend what you suggested though, and use ZMapper.

They probably made it working then, never tested actualy. There was a whole lot of angry posts around the release of 3.0, because there was no feature for normalmap generation. Which by many would be considered a fundamental feature of zb:)
