View Full Version : Equivalent of spring dynamic in 3DSMax, in Maya!

Hey there,

I'm trying to research methods of rigging wings and found a great example - however, it's for 3DS Max and I'm only familiar with Maya :(

At one point, this guy seems to add 'spring dynamics' onto a curve which add some nice secondary motion.

Can anyone tell me what the equivalent to 'spring dynamics' in 3DS Max is in Maya?

The example I'm referring to can be found at:

Thanks to the creator of this tutorial for sharing.

Under the Dynamics menu set...

Soft/Rigid Bodies > Create Springs.

You'll need to turn the CVs of your curve into particles before this will work properly, however, and you'll need to have the particles selected when you create the springs. Is that what you're looking for?

If not, then there's also the:

Hair > Make Selected Curves Dynamic.

This will fake it, and you'll need to attach a controler to the base and tip of the curve in order for it to work properly.

try flex modifier directly on the geometry, no need for curves, i think. you can add it to the curves, but I have no idea how to deform the geometry with it.
