Title: Land Raider and I
Name: Sam Boyko
Country: United States
Software: 3ds max, Photoshop
This is a composite of a photo of myself and a render of a Space Marine Land Raider tank, designed by Games Workshop as part of the Warhammer 40k scifi game. The model was done by me a few years ago. This is my first serious attempt at compositing, so I would appreciate any harsh criticism. Thank you.

It's a pretty convincing composite. If you added the dof blur in post, you could probably improve the effect by making a correct camera match and scene scale, then using physical camera.

Very good work, the model is good and it has been comped in very well. There is nothing wrong that I can pick out,

To me there seems to lack a little bit of contactshadow under the tank. It's most obvious under the trails. Other than that i can't see anything.. Great work overall!, and the tank is very good!

geez that's the most realistic hair and skin shader I've seen so far in max! Vray? Mray? hahah
It's really good considering this is your first attempt at compositing, keep it up!

I agree with the shadow issue mentioned above. I think there should be a much darker patch of shadow right where the tank is touching the desk - the closer to get to the tank, the less light can be bounced around there.
But that is being REALLY picky. From a normal lookover without trying to find faults it stands up really well. You've done a good job.

My only crit is actually a question. What are you looking at while there is a tiny tank with a man in it? I'd be looking at the tank, but you seem to be staring intently at something just outside of this shot. A good place for this tank, IMHO, is a bit more to your left and away from you, that way it can't be mistaken that your staring at this tank and not just pretending there is a tank there.
My only tip to improve on this, if its something you want to imporve, would be to place something roughly the same size on the table and stare at the center of that object during the pic and then composite your object over it.

yeah - this looks very convincing. the main thing that's throwing this off for me, aside from the things already mentioned, is the textures on the tank which just seem a little too clean and saturated.

First - this is a fantastic comp - excellent job!
In order to sell it better at a closer (and LINGER look - at a casual glance no one would really notice these), I agree with the above comments about the base touching the surface should be a crisper dark. Also, try doing a masked clip of the highlights of the doorway/ramp in the shadow - it has a bit too much brightness for the surrounding environment and doesn't blend as well as it could.
But again - this is looking far beyond a casual glance - great job!
