alias 05-25-2003, 09:22 AM hi all,
i have imported a few image plains into the orth views....but they just sit smack bam in the middle of the world :( ...can i scale and move these puppies around ?? if so...how ...
Also, how can i be sure that they are image plains for a camera and not a viewport ??
Cheers ;)

just open the Attribute Editor for the imageplane. there you have every control over the placement of the imageplanes.
and what you mean with the second question ??

hi svenip,
my problem is...
i have 3 image plains that i need as a refernce for modelling ...side...top and front.
I import these and i have 2 problems:
1: they dont import at their source size ...they seems to inflate to a bigger size
2:i cant move them around ...they all just sit at 0,0,0 in world space.
i need to be able to force them to maintain their original image size, and also i need to move them around in space.
Cheers for your help mate :)

the thing with imageplanes in maya is that they look at the current size of the viewport.
you can either change the width or height value of the imageplane or just select attach to camera, then you'll get some more attributes to influence the plane.
let me ask you something : why you wanna resize them ?? usually you paint the planes with the same sizes over all, so you don't run into this problem in maya

if i view the planes in Photoshop...they are all fine n dandy ...all the same size/ration ready for Maya.
When i do a View > Image Plane > Import Image ... the .jpg gets imported, but it doesnt keep its dimensions/ratio ...
So, when i import the 3 different images (top, front, side) (which ARE the same size as i had just exported them from Photoshop) they come in to my viewports with random ratios :(
Do you know what i mean ??
I end up with a perspective view that has 3 image planes with images that are NOT the sizes they should be.
I think it has something to do with the placement of the plane...but i have tried it all...and cant seem to get it to work :(
Also, how do i simply move them around in space, as they all just sit orientated at 0,0,0 ??
thanks again mate :)

when I move s me image planes i do this. i select the camera.
View>select Camera
then in my channel box i get all the controls for the image place that ineed. if you have more than one i would use hypershade or hyper graph to select. but i think its faster than opening the att editor everytime.

In each of your windows your importing from your VIEW pulldown right. OK. Now go to the same pulldown -> VIEW, then to Camera attribute editor/ then at the top hit the imagePlain1 tab. Now go down to -> placement extras / Forget coverage / right below it is - Center - Width, and Hight.
Now, use your controll tab on your keyboard, and middle mouse button click-drag in the center, width, and height text fields to adjust your image placement.
I can help you no more. ;)
