View Full Version : Stuck on this 'Character Head' Tutorial
Xilica 05-25-2003, 05:34 AM Hey all,
I'm more of confused than stuck on this tutorial:
Located Here (http://www.thehobbitguy.com/tutorials/polymodeling/page01.htm)
At the bottom it says make a polygon around the picture of the head. Well, I'm using 3ds max 5 and I realize that the spline tool would be my best bet, however where are the verts in that picture? How do I know where to start one vert and stop another?
Thanks in advance!

YOu don know that it's tutorial for Maya right?
Anyway . I think i see what you are saying.. he does not relaly give a very good idea or show where to place verts ..although it is more clear on page 3.
Basically I don't think it matters too much .
You first make a mesh by tracing the profile of the head and then add interior detail with the splity polygon tool.. I dunno what the equivalent would be in Max.
Does that help?

yea i realize it was for maya,
in max i assume the draw polygon tool would be to draw it out in a spline and then bevel it..
yes it kind of does help since i really never looked ahead on page 3... i think what i am going to do is to draw it out first and then add the edges like it says in page 2 and if there is a line vertice or any that don't below there except the ones that were made when i cut then i'll delete those verts

I sugest you to start with splines and with the least number of points, following the lines of the face as the tutorial says. Then you can fuse the points and aply a surface modifier, then i use to convert it to editable polygon wich is esier for me, but you can edit vertices with the surface modifier as well.
