I'm pretty sure of seeing some over at highend3d.com, can't check right now since the site seems to be down (again...), though.

Other than that why not just randomly extrude some poly-spheres, should work just as well, no?

In Maya4.5 there's a script that lets you paint sphere primitives instead of brushs onto a surface. I haven't used it yet but maybe you could use that and then use a displacemnt map on the resulting spheres to make them look 'rock' like?

Well, I finally figured out how to "paint" rocks with the Paint Script tool under the Modify Menu. Look up Paint Script Tool in the manual..it explained everything for me. If you have problems after that, Ill gladly help you out. :applause:
