I would like to know why you are asking the platform question. I work on a PC at home and a Mac in school. Both work fine for the most part, though I think our school hasn't optimized Maya on OSX. I could better inform you if I knew the purpose of your question.

is there any significant diference in performance? workflow and rendering? that would be real question :)

I think NT systems (2kPro) has the most time on it, so the least amount of problems. But if you are talking performance, that is more dependent on other things; processor speed, video card, RAM, etc.

Inside, Maya's code is the same from machine to machine. It is all about how your parts talk to Maya to get their best speed.

P4's get a boost from the Hyper threading in XP. I think one of the best things about Linux is that it handles memory .. it is much more effecient and can give each process more ram than windows which is 2gb per process witht he exception of XP64 which requires a gb of ram jsut for the OS.

Honestly you have not many reasons to switch from what you ahve. Maya on the Mac works well but doe snot have as many plugins available and video card support is not as expansive as windows.

I think that the best OS for maya from Windows series is Windows 2000. on windows Xp there i found some bugs. While rendering anything changing active application for example to icq or even start button maya goes white and freeze... :) in 2000 i can even run second maya while rendering. it is even faster in this OS. I heard that the best OS for maya are Unix based like Linux but that is nothing more than rumor. I read some time ago that ILM is working on Unix based - Linux. I know that they are very professionals but it must be something in it! Meanwhile i'm still for Win2000 for Maya.

The biggest problem with XP and Maya is if you try to turn off the XP look.. in the classic look minimized windows don't work correctly and you get the refreshing problems.
