View Full Version : help polymodeling Gatorade bottle
leadnut 06-29-2008, 08:06 PM hey guys im wondering if i can get some helpful pointers on how to best go about this Gatorade bottle. I started with lathe of 14 divs mainly cause the bottom cube-like divits are 7 rows(with 1 subdiv)so i could push vertexs around, then smooth edge.Ive come across a snag im not sure how to find the actual depths of the points on the bottom part, then much less integrate this back into the bottle mesh without affecting the upper part.i was planning on doing 1 row then connecting them together via duplicating. i have spline profiles of the bottle shapes and fronts to follow, but is this enough?-this model has to be very accurate.ive attached R10 file and ref pic.

Check out these tutorials, they should help you. (http://www.c4dportal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=4)

Personally, i'd go for a Hypernurbs Poly modelling for that. :curious:
hello
this is my way... I hope you will be able to follow me

Is there any possibility of you providing an English version of that bottle tutorial? It looks amazing, but I can't follow it!

thanks for this, but my model is infinitely more complex than this tutorial-i can get to this point already :(
fyi you can translate the page thru googles translater

Hello,
I did a few months back the new coke bottle... in some way there is always a rythm, a logic, try to find it maybe even work with seperate pieces and connect them later.... it's essential that you analyze it well, so you know how many poly's you need to start with...
If i find some time, i 'll take a look at it...

i got a friend to suggest the best way would be to model 1of the indents row on the bottom flat(with the bottle profile section only above it) then dup in a row-then use the wrap deformer to make the bottle shape! sounds like a winner-working on it now...

Not having the actual bottle is a disadvantage as the photo
is distorted. Regardless, there are many ways to do a 3D project,
as noted in my other posts.
This one offered a challenge. After getting mediocre results with
box modeling and lathing, I went to lofting and lathing. This offered
more control in the lower section.
When I find the bottle in this area, I'm sure I'll be making some adjustments :)

No need for splines or lofts etc..
Here`s a quick breakdown image:
http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/2995/bottlemodellingtb5.jpg
1) 8 Sided Cylinder
2) Select all (except caps) and extrude-inner with `preserve groups` off
3) Bevel
4) `Ring select` the shown edges and `connect`
5) `Loop select` the new edges and scalem in a bit..
6) Continue to extrude bottom/top for the rest.
Easy peasy, hope that helps.. ;)
[edit] rizon: really nice job on that

actually not so easy peasy unfortunately-that solution is way over simplified-this model as stated above needs to be ACCURATE-its gonna be used for a product ad an they demand high accuracy. The good news is i have a wip-long story short-used a flat section and poly modeled from subdivided plane and extruding edges in 1 vertical section of the bottle(7 parts)/symmetried the upper to lower2 cubes. then going by profile splines just moved points in and out, along with some beveling for good nurbs results. Then did a duplicate linear(6times)/connect/wrap deformer cylinder to proper width(lineup to profiles)/nurbs result...still wip, no bottom and cap-also gonna put another deformr to pinch the base a bit.
