I'm looking at upgrading my ultra cheap Aiptek digital pad. I went low end to make sure I was going to stick with the digital media, and I really like it. I'm looking between the cinque and the intuos digital pads. Aside from the obvious LCD screen and the ablitiy to see and turn the pad as you draw (very cool), are there any other differences I should consider? My thoughts are that for now I can live without the LCD. I've done some nice work on my cheap Aiptek, so it should be a big upgrade to any Wacom. I saw on a Painter X demo the ability to tilt your brush which changes what happens with the airbrush. I assume that is a feature of the Wacom pads. Anything else I should consider?

thanks

I personally prefer to not have my hand block the image as I work, and now I've gotten used to it I prefer it. I tried Cintiq once and I didn't like having my hand blocking the image after I've gotten so used to the Wacom Intuos. Being able to rotate easily is nice though. Corel Painter lets you do it in the software, but AFAIK you can't do that in Photoshop (yet).

the intuos 3 and the current cintiqs are the same. they use the same pens, have the same buttons and touch strips, same tilt and pressure sensitivity etc, and I believe even use the same drivers. the intuos will only have one usb cable to worry about, whereas the cintiq has usb, lcd, and power. the cintiq also needs to be calibrated to get the cursor and the stylus tip to line up. other than that and the lcd and the shape of the thing, they are basically the same.

thank you for the replies. It made my decision easy. I can live without the LCD, so I will go with the Intuos.
