View Full Version : Minotaur.....character concept
Teyon 05-24-2003, 11:59 PM http://home.att.net/~teyon.25/sketches/minotair2003.jpg I just love Minotaurs. Don't know why. :) I may make this guy in 3D once I get the hang of GMAX (or if I feel like doing a Rhino3D version).

Thanks gang. Freddy7133d, go on and color it if ya want, I don't think I'll be getting around to that and would love to see it colored.
LiQu1d, I'm not a big fan of his feet either but I was kind of at the point where I was ready to move on to my next image...I forgot how much inking takes out of me. That's probably why I don't do it much.
Thanks again and here's a head shot with a slight perspective problem:

"a slight perspective problem"
where? lol
i really like it, the legs seem a bit short tho. maybe cause they're bent.

Great line work (I'm not so good at inks). Nice minotaur, always a cool subject.
I agree that his legs are a little short. I think he would have more apparent stature and presence if they were longer.

Thanks! Isn't that eye a little wierd on the head shot? Maybe it's just me.
The legs are bent but maybe I should make them longer. I'll work on it as I flesh out the character more. I want to do a few action poses before I make a final decision on modeling him or not. Thanks again!

Seeming a bit more like a Satyr than a Minotaur, but he does look cool :)
I agree on the short legs thing..look forward to seeing the final if you decide to model it (which you should :D ).

Thanks. It's the fur isn't it? I thought as much too. Couldn't remember for the life of me which of them had fur and which didn't. :) I figured it was better safe than sorry. Note to self: Lose the fur.
I'm leaning towards trying to make him in 3D as my first GMAX experiment. When that fails (as it most certainly will...polys are new to me), I'll make a Rhino version in NURBs.

Well mainly I meant the more human head vs. a full bull's head, but yeah I think the fur could be adding to the impression..though it makes him look cool, which in the end is all that matters :)

I happen to like the legs short, it gives a feeling of greater upper body strength. I really like the forearm on our left it looks great.:applause:

Thanks gang. AH! THe head! Okay, I see what you mean. I've always liked the more humanoid approach to them (actually, I think I'm one of the few folks who take that approach). I'll try and make him a little more bullish but I don't want a straight up bull's head for him. Thanks again everyone!
I started modeling his torso...not sure if I can post the entire 3D process in the 2D forum, so when I have a bit more to show, I'll post it in the WIP forum and link over. I decided to stick with Rhino until I got the hang of GMAX. Here's a quick sample of what it's starting out to be... (again, everything else is going to be elsewhere).
great pen work. I love how you made it go into deep with only white and black

Thanks for dropping by, but I don't think it's really better than yours. Different, but not better. :) Actually, you kind of inspired me to go ahead and model this guy, I was just going to leave it at the drawing but when I saw your model I realized I didn't have anything in my portfolio that was really powerfull. Now let's see if I can catch up to you so we can compare the two different approaches!
