View Full Version : Weird problem with LW today
leigh 05-24-2003, 11:23 PM Hey guys,
I am having some weird problems with LightWave today that I have never had before. I've never had stability issues with LW before.
Firstly, things started becoming a bit odd earlier when Layout would crash everytime I tried to close the program. I'd get a "An error has occured. Please restart the program" message.
Then, after that happened a few times, neither Modeler nor Layour would start - when I opened the app, I got the same error message.
I went to my temp directory, and cleared out the "LW Hub" folder, and then the programs would load again.
However, every now and then, Layout is still crashing - sometimes when I make a small change to something, then the app crashes with that error message.
Then, when I restart the program, it's REALLY slow. Like whenever I click on something to look at it's options or whatever, it takes aaaaaaaages.
What on earth is wrong?
:surprised

Are you using 7.5c ???
Exactly the same here with the 7.5c release !
Sorry to say this Newtek, but I experiences stability problems with this c release, and I’m getting back to 7.5 pretty soon !!!

Strange !
I experience these problems in the c release, I never had stability problems with the b release, there where other problems with this release but it was running pretty “smooth” !
Maybe we should reinstall everything ! :annoyed:

Just trash your preferences and it should be fine.

I'm using 7.5C and finding it very stable
I suggest you upgrade to C and see if that cures your problems first
If not it could be you're having problems with OGL drivers and your GRFX card. Especially if you're using a NVidia card with Via motherboard I used to get lot sof crashes which all came down to the card drivers in the end.
Try updating your card drivers too whilst you're at it - If you do use a NVidia card - they have just releasaed a new set of drivers..

Hi Leigh
I had the same problem with 7b. I don't realy know how to fix it, but here is a small workaround:
When LW crashes and this "An error has occured. Please restart the program" message applys you have to go to the Taskmanager and have to kill this "Doc. Watsen" Process of LW - means the crash LW with the windows errorrecovery - .
Because at this moment there are 2 lw processes are still running. You kill the crashed one and then the new one should run fine... *hope so*
Sorry for my bad english.

Thanks guys, I'll upgrade to 7.5c (just haven't gotten around to it yet) and check out that Dr. Watson thing Jakyl suggested :)
Darth_Fabio - thanks for the tips, luckily the problem isn't with my gfx card, although I do need a new one (I'm notusing Nvidia though :))
Thanks to everyone for the help

This was happening to me a few months ago. Found out something was taxing my CPU. Had it pegged at 100% all of the time. I never figured out what it was but assumed it was a virus. So I backed up, saved and re_installed my entire OS. Yep that took care of the problem but was pretty extreme measure.
I recall in that month I was visiting quite a few news sites and probably picked something up that Norton didn't detect. Needless to say, I read the newspaper more these days, less they start to come laced with some kind of airborne, cyanide poison ink.
