View Full Version : texturing problem with hypernurbs

I'm working on a headlight of a car (Lotus Elise) and made a selection tag to get a black line around the light. The light is placed in hypernurns, but still I get a sharp edge in the black part. I've posted a wireframe. The selected point is the place where it happens.

There's no weighting on that point at all, no edge weighting..no point weighting etc.

Does anyone know how to resolve this?
Thanks in advance

It looks fantastic, but it's not a wireframe! :)

Hmm, that's a bitch. You have a three-edge vertex that's messing up the HN mesh, but to get rid of it you have to make a triangle, which is just as bad.

I changed the HN subd to 1,1 and made it editable. That gives you some more points to play with. I dropped that into a HN with 1,2 subd, so you don't end up with any more polys. Then I added some weighting to the trouble point and a couple of the surrounding edges. A little point pushing after that, and I think it looks better. Not perfect, but a little better: http://bellsouthpwp.net/A/d/AdamTrachtenberg/EE2_light.zip

that blue one is just the reference photo right?

well i know triangles are bad but i solved this by deleting the poly and using the bridge tool to create two tri's in its place, i hope this helps

yes, it's just a ref picture :)
stuff like that is needed to make my point. My problem always comes with full documentation ;)

Thanks for your replies...I'll have a good look at the answers and decide what's best.

Looks like a 3D image to me. A well done one.

give the edges to either side of the point a weight of 100. make sure you don't weight the point (no modifier keys).

Edge weighting does the trick fairly well. Adding more geometry will result in a loss of continuity between the hood and the light (sharp edge that runs across the hood has to be seen in the glass of the light as well).

Thanks.
